Calum Macpherson qualified from Edinburgh University in 1986. Since qualifying, Calum has been in general practice at St Michael’s Dental Surgery where he has developed a practice with a reputation for successfully working with the dentally anxious patient.

His special interests include the management of the dentally anxious patient, dental treatment under sedation and the use of homeopathic remedies in dental treatment. He has been closely involved in the teaching of sedation to dental students, newly qualified dentists and dental nurses. Calum has also worked part-time in the sedation unit at Cardiff Dental Hospital and at the Oral Surgery Dept, Royal United Hospital, Bath.

When not working, Calum is a keen scuba diver, being a nationally qualified instructor. Other interests include motorboats, sport and Scottish history. (top)

Bjorn Heisler graduated from Erlangen-Nurnberg University, Germany in 1997. After having joined a research group dealing with the causes of gum disease, he obtained a doctorate in periodontology in 2001. Since he gained his first work experience in a maxillofacial hospital, oral surgery and providing dental implants have been his main interests. Bjorn's other interests include orthodontic treatments, crown and bridgework and advanced prosthetic dentistry. He likes to treat children and create a relaxing atmosphere for anxious patients. In his spare time, Bjorn enjoys sports and playing the piano.  (top)

Debbie Armitage is our  dental hygienist and the most recent addition to our team, having joined us in 2005. Debbie qualified from Bristol in 2005. Debbie views her role in the practice as working with patients to combat dental disease, using a combination of preventive measures and an educational approach, to improve and maintain dental health. Rachel Iles is our dental receptionist, and for many patients is their first point of contact with the practice. Having joined us in 1996, Rachel’s friendly, approachable and caring approach have helped make many patients’ visits to the dentist an easier experience. Her broad knowledge base allows her to answer most queries patients may have regarding treatment. (top)

Jo Burke is the Senior Dental Nurse, and has been involved in dentistry since the late 1980’s. Jo joined the team in 1995 and generally nurses with Calum.  Jo holds the National Certificate in Dental Nursing and the post-certificate in Conscious Sedation.

Her skill and experience are a vital factor in the smooth and efficient running of the practice. (top)

Alex Wood has worked as a dental nurse since 1990, and gained her National Certificate in 1994. Alex has been with the practice since 2000, and is currently working towards her post-certificate in Conscious Sedation. Alex may also be seen in the role of receptionist. (top)

Anna Gifford nurses specifically with Tim Milton, our registered specialist in Surgical Dentistry. Anna has worked in dentistry since the mid 1960’s and is a hugely experienced dental nurse. Much of her nursing over the years has revolved around surgical dentistry, and this is her area of special interest. (top)

And finally……Kate Jones is the Practice Manager, who does much of the behind the scenes work to help ensure the practice keeps up to date with a variety of issues – Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Employment Law, Radiation Regulations - to mention but a few!  Kate has worked in dentistry since 1993, originally as a dental nurse, attaining her National Certificate in Dental Nursing in 1995. Kate has been at St. Michael’s since 1997, and took up the role of Practice Manager in 2004. Kate will still be seen on reception and sometimes even doing some dental nursing – but only if she really has to!! (top)
